Trip to Florida

Alice and I were in Florida the week before last, enjoying the sand and the sun, as you can plainly see from Alice's expression. Actually, Alice was deathly afraid of the sand and stayed huddled on the blanket most of the time. She did like throwing bread to the birds.

The first half of the week was spent in Gainesville, enjoying time with the family and great-grandparents and then the second half of the week was spent in Jacksonville at the Florida Chiropractic Convention, where my dad was their Honoree. He received two standing ovations and gave a very humorous speech about the early days of starting a practice from nothing.

The only bad part about the trip was the airport/airplane experience. Besides getting bumped from our flight and having to fly out the next day, and then almost getting bumped from our flight on the way home, Alice was not very happy sitting on my lap. She wanted to run up and down the isle and visit with everyone. Needless to say, we had a lot of non-essential trips to the bathroom just to keep our sanity.

Oh, and the lesson I learned about booking flights--make sure they assign you a seat at the time of purchase (especially with United). If they don't, you might get bumped. It almost felt like I was flying standby the whole time, which I wasn't! Not the most pleasant feeling with an 18 month old.
