Here are some pictures from the half-marathon I did about a week and a half ago. It was in Hoosier National Forest and we camped the night before the race with some friends who were also running. Though our tent has done fine in light rain, we learned that evening that our tent does not do well in heavy rain! But thankfully it stopped and we were able to mop the water up before we laid our bedding out for the night.
The next day, Bruce watched Alice, Myra, and Miles (our friend's little boy) while we ran. Matt, on the far right, did the marathon and finished 4th.
We started out on pavement, but within fifty yards, we were on a narrow, very very muddy trail. Sometimes I felt like for every two steps forward, I would slide one step back. For some of the little streams, we were able to find ways around without getting our feet too wet, but there were a couple that we just had to wade through. Squish, squish, squish.
We stuck together until the end when Anna out-sprinted me:) We finished in 3h/2m.

I made the blog! Thanks so much for running with me--it was so nice to have a buddy to prod me on and keep watch during the potty break. And thanks to Bruce for watching Miles; that's no easy task, even for the non sleep-deprived. I'm game for next year!
