So, I've never been a huge fan of Walmart, though I do shop there when I'm too lazy to clip coupons. But this week I couldn't find chicken breasts for a decent price anywhere else, so I decided to go and stock up. I go in, I get my chicken and a few other things. As I'm walking out, I see that they've overcharged me for the four packages of chicken I just bought.
Number 1 reason I don't like Walmart: Every single time I go there, something doesn't ring up for the right price. And guess what? The mistake is never for lower than marked on the shelf--coincidence?
I head over to customer service and tell the lady that the chicken was supposed to be $2lb, or 3.50 per package (each package was 1.75lbs) but it rang up for $4.10. Oh, ok, so do you want to return the chicken, she asks me. No, I need chicken, can you please do a price check, I reply. After waiting for 5 minutes for someone to come do a price check, no one shows up. The lady then asks an off duty employee who she had been chatting with before I showed up to go check the price. The lady takes forever. A rather large line has formed by this time. She finally comes back. No, there is no chicken that is $2 back there. There's packages that are $3.50. Yes, I say! Yes, those are the packages I have--$2 a pound, but $3.50 for the package. Again, sorry ma'm but there's no chicken that's $2. Ok I say, look at the package--see, 1.75lbs. If you multiply $2 by 1.75lbs, you get $3.50. Blank stares, a line of people behind me. I give up and return the chicken.
For the record, here are reasons 2 and 3:
Number 2 reason I don't like Walmart: When you reduce the quantity of an item, you should also reduce the price, you don't leave it the same and expect customers not to notice.
Number 3 reason I don't like Walmart: When you reduce the quantity AND quality of a product, and people find themselves paying 5 cents more a diaper that their child suddenly starts leaking out of every night, don't expect them not to notice. They will call and complain and buy their diapers elsewhere.
Ah, I feel better getting that off my chest!

oh my gosh... I can not believe that! That is hilarious... so annoying... but hilarious!
Did you really have to leave without your chicken after all that? Didn't anyone have a calculator to confirm that 2 x 1.75= 3.50? I can't believe that after you drew them a map, you still didn't get your chicken at the advertised price!
Yep! I hate Wal-Mart too. I have been known to call and ask to talk to the store manager (from my cell phone) while I am in the store, standing in an insanely long line. It worked!! I also used to have the regional managers number in my phone and I frequently called and left nasty messages. :)
#2--I think that's the manufacturers doing it (of course if it's the Walmart brand). Orange Juice bottles have gotten smaller recently and the price has gone up...Always have to look at the unit price
oh yeah...customer no-service. Hate waiting in line behind all the people buying money orders & doing Western Union. Takes forever.
I was talking specifically about the Walmart brand. I actually haven't noticed it in other brands, though I'm sure others are doing it.
Update on the diapers--yesterday, I received a coupon in the mail for a free box of diapers, so it does pay to complain. The enclosed letter said the diapers I was disappointed with must have been one of the 'rare occasions where a less than perfect package slips through [their] quality control system.' However, when I was complaining, the employee admitted that there had been recent design changes to the diaper, so we'll see...
Reason number 4: They treat employees poorly. Possible scenario:
The woman at customer service didn't graduate from high school and lacks basic math skills. She's working two jobs instead of finishing her GED because Walmart doesn't provide her with health insurance and she's trying to pay down medical bills and keep keep up with rent.
Okay, so I'm probably way off here, but thought it might fuel your anti-Walmart fire:)
