After getting a helium balloon during pre-school open house and then losing it to the big blue beyond, Myra decided she definitely wanted a balloon-themed birthday party, in honor of the balloon that went up to heaven.
I actually had a really fun time planning this one--there are just so many things you can do with balloons. We had balloon rockets, decorated balloons, had a water balloon fight, and played pop the balloon (candy was in the balloons--it was hilarious to watch the different strategies the kids employed). We also blocked a part of our living room off and filled it with about 100 balloons. I had all the kids get in so I could take a picture and told them that after I took the picture they could go crazy with the balloons. I made the mistake of counting to three and they went crazy on three--before I had snapped the picture! But I did get the tail end of the chaos on video.
Myra enjoyed helping make the cake (ice cream cake, of course) and filling up the goody bags. I tried to involve her in planning the games, but she came up with really weird ones that all involved every child getting loads of candy, so I decided to do that part on my own!
We actually didn't take that many pictures--we had our hands full with 10 extra kids and no parents (Myra really wanted a drop-off party--apparently that's a sign that you're a big girl).
