Phew!

This month has been pretty busy for me between training for my race and sewing Alice's Halloween costume--my first attempt at a dress.  Phew!  Glad it's over!  I finished the dress, except for hemming, around 5am Saturday because Alice needed it for her dance recital that morning.  I then work up at 8am so I could try it on Alice and get it hemmed.  I'm a night owl and often have late nights, but I don't think I've ever had only 3 hours of sleep!  I wouldn't recommend it!

I would have never attempted this dress except for something my Grandma Fearing said a couple of years ago after I complained that no one had ever taught me how to sew (not that my mom didn't attempt to).  I don't remember her exact words, but it was something to the affect of, no one ever taught me how to sew either--stop complaining and start sewing and you'll pick it up as you go along.

The race was a couple of weeks ago in Indianapolis.  Here we are at the finish line after the girl's fun run.  Despite freezing my tush off before the race (I was so cold I LINGERED in the porta potty) it was so nice to have some crisp fall weather to run in.  I finished in 2:02:58--not my best time, but much better than I expected to do with how I was running during training.  Adrenaline is an amazing thing!

The hardest part of the whole day was running with Myra in the fun run a couple of hours after I finished the half.  Every muscle in my body was protesting and I was so relieved when halfway through Myra decided she was ready to walk.  The poor girl tripped and did a complete face plant three times during the race but each time picked herself up and kept on going.  Alice ran the whole way with Bruce.  They got to use the same finish line as the other racers and came in as some of the marathoners were finishing up.  It was a pretty easy course and I really liked running in the cool weather--maybe I'll do the full marathon next year.

We stayed a couple of nights in Indianapolis and had a fun time walking around the downtown area and visiting the art museum's sculpture garden.

Indianapolis has a really cool canal that runs through part of the city.  There are even gondolas with singing gondoliers during certain times of the year.

Totally impressive sewing accomplishment, Faith! I only sew at Halloween time when I figure it doesn't really matter if I mess up because it's just a costume. I try to stay away from sleeves - they scare me.

The run is definitely impressive too. I love how your girls join in and it becomes a family affair.
